Basic Description

We're seeking a creative, committed and energetic Development Manager who will function as a key member of the Milwaukee Office external relations team, working closely with the Development Director and Executive Director to achieve annual revenue goals. Their primary focus will be on creating and executing our individual giving efforts, as well as executing a high-quality annual fundraising event. This position will play a crucial role in the implementation of the strategic fundraising plan for individual donors, including prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.  These responsibilities include managing and tracking donor solicitations and processing gifts, organizing fundraising and donor stewardship events, managing the donor stewardship program and running direct mail campaigns. The Development Manager will assist other external relations team members as necessary throughout the year in order for the department to successfully accomplish its goals.

Essential Job Functions

Relationship Management & Stewardship:  Create and manage a portfolio of individual donors with the goal of deepening engagement, renewing annual gifts, and increasing affinity and giving.

Direct Mail Campaigns: Lead on all direct mail fundraising campaigns targeting individuals. Develop the strategy, preparation and execution of all mailings, including the end-of-year campaign.  Collaborate with the Communications staff to write all appeal letters and donor communications.

Prospecting and Cultivation:  Lead prospecting and donor research for individuals.  Strategize and implement cultivation techniques to inspire prospective supporters to become donors.

Fundraising Events: Generate, manage and support events by working with the Development Director and Executive Director to leverage relationships with current individual donors, including board members, to significantly grow the number of individuals supporting the organization.  Successfully plan and execute our annual Dream Big Dinner event for approximately 500 attendees, including leading all event preparation and post-event follow-up.

Development Operations:  Execute the acknowledgement of donations from individuals, including monetary, services, and in-kind. Assist Development Director as needed with donor stewardship, policy development, database management and updating, internal reports, and filing.

Other Duties as Apparent or Assigned:  Work with the Development Director on various projects as assigned.

Professional Requirements (Skills & Qualifications)

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Nonprofit or Fund Development certification preferred.

Related Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years fundraising experience with experience managing individual giving campaigns;
  • Experience in developing, implementing and managing direct mail projects;
  • Previous experience implementing and managing a donor stewardship program with a focus on donor-centered fundraising;
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing multiple projects and deadlines concurrently;
  • Experience in creating processes and tools for effective donor prospecting, research and solicitation that leads to new donor acquisition and increased gifts and a strong focus on moving donors up the pipeline;
  • History of using data analysis and reporting to inform decisions as they relate to donor communications, individual giving and donor stewardship program;
  • Relationship management experience, demonstrating the ability to work one-on-one with new and existing donors through site visits, donor stewardship calls and in-person meetings;
  • Prefer previous experience developing and organizing fundraising events;
  • Grant writing experience preferred.

Computer/Software Skills:

  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and donor database software;
  • Raiser's Edge experience strongly preferred.
