Basic Description

College Possible is seeking a dynamic and experienced Development Manager to help launch the next stage of the Chicago site's growth. The Development Manager will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Growth & Development Officer and be responsible for administering College Possible's 3-year development plan; planning, organizing and managing all aspects of fundraising including grants, annual appeals, outreach efforts, fundraising events, and stewardship of current and future donors. The Development Manager is a key member of College Possible Chicago's leadership team, and will be relied on for expertise in planning, facilitation, problem solving, and proactive measures. This position will assist in achieving site revenue goals and support organizational priorities, driving the mission forward.

The Development Manager will also oversee donor management and communication. The successful candidate will be ready to hit the ground running with enthusiasm, fundraising expertise, superior organizational and communication skills, analytical capabilities, and a talent to manage multiple projects at once.

Essential Job Functions

Relationship Management & Stewardship:  Manage a portfolio of individuals building on existing relationships, and improve donor retention and increase number of individual donors through a meaningful stewardship strategy. 

Grant and Appeal Writing: Develop, write and submit grant proposals and reports. Support achievement of site revenue goals through superb grant writing for proposals and reports to corporations and foundations. Using Raiser's Edge database, accurately track grant-reporting deadlines to ensure timely submission and compliance.

Fundraising Events: Organize and oversee all aspects of fund raising events including logistics, communications, presentations, etc. to advance fund raising and community awareness.  Build annual calendar of events and lead event preparation and post-event follow-up. 

Planning & Analysis: Help build the annual fundraising plan. Manage progress toward funding goals daily with use of fundraising management tools.  Provide quarterly analysis and move's management reports to Executive Director and Growth & Development Officer on progress toward goal.

Development Operations: Assist with correspondence, donor stewardship and other development functions. Help in the creation of donor related materials. Enter donor related activities into Raiser's Edge in a timely and regular basis, including, but not limited to correspondence with the donor, cultivation activities such as mailings, thank you cards, copies of grant, and other related documents for ensuring all information in the database is accurate and up to date.

Marketing: Manage development, customization, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including newsletters, brochures, e-communications, and the College Possible Chicago website.

Other Duties as Apparent or Assigned:  Work with the Growth & Development Officer on various projects as assigned.

Professional Requirements (Skills & Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Related Work Experience:

  • Five to ten years of relevant development, communications, marketing or related experience. Fundraising experience in individual and corporate giving preferred;
  • Three years of grant writing experience preferred;
  • Previous experience organizing fundraising events preferred.

Computer/Software Skills:

  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and donor database software;
  • Raiser's Edge experience strongly preferred.
