College Possible is a growing nonprofit coaching students from low-income backgrounds to and through college to break the cycle of poverty and empower the next generation of leaders. Our model has earned national recognition: the inaugural Evergreen National Education Award recognized our leadership in increasing access to and success in college for students from low-income backgrounds. It also earns top-of-field results: a 2011 Harvard study found that the program more than doubles a student's chance of enrolling in a four-year college, and our students are four times more likely to become college graduates than their low-income peers. College Possible has a budget of $22 million, more than 130 full-time employees and more than 270 AmeriCorps and VISTA service members. During the 2018-19 school year, we will reach an estimated 25,000 students in all 50 states, at more than 90 partner high schools and at more than 350 colleges.

Basic Description

This position will provide information and resources to assist students in persisting in college. With knowledge and understanding of enrollment procedures, the Enrollment Specialist will guide both current college students and incoming first year students through various processes associated with college enrollment including but not limited to: intentional outreach to students that are at risk for not persisting, responding to student concerns and questions, completing registration and confirming financial aid packages. Work is performed under general supervision and effectiveness in the role is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained.  The Enrollment Specialist will work closely with the Program Staff to ensure retention driven services are provided to students.

Essential Job Functions

Student services: Provide on-the-spot assistance to students regarding enrollment services information and transactions. Provide information about registration holds and how to resolve them. Educate students on how to check their financial aid status. Share information about payment deadlines and procedures to resolve account balances. Answer general questions about the university, academic expectations, registration, financial aid and other processes. Tutor students in using on-line self-service features related to enrollment and registration. Provide information about ordering official transcripts. Assist students in completing loan counseling.

Seek out and participate in activities that lead to the persistence of all college students. Maintain records (update Salesforce database with appropriate information related to the status of students).

Professional Requirements (Skills & Qualifications)

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Related Work Experience:

  • Experience with AmeriCorps, VISTA, or other service programs preferred;
  • Experience in Admissions, Student Records, Registrar's or Financial Aid Office preferred;
  • Familiarity with college admissions process, including standardized tests, application process and financial aid strongly preferred.

Computer/Software Skills:

  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products;
  • Salesforce experience required.

Other Skills, Abilities and Requirements:

  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people in a team environment;
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, parents, employees, and administration;
  • Eagerness to help low-income young people achieve success;
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills;
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and handle potentially stressful situations calmly and appropriately;
  • Must be able to drive independently, have clean driving record, reliable vehicle and insurance that covers the vehicle;
  • Desire to work in a growing nonprofit organization, ability to adapt, creativity, and commitment to excellence highly valued.

Terms

This is a part-time position that will run from early July through August 2019.  Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
