College Possible is a growing nonprofit coaching students from low-income backgrounds to and through college to break the cycle of poverty and empower the next generation of leaders. Our model has earned national recognition: the inaugural Evergreen National Education Award recognized our leadership in increasing access to and success in college for students from low-income backgrounds. It also earns top-of-field results: a 2011 Harvard study found that the program more than doubles a student's chance of enrolling in a four-year college, and our students are four times more likely to become college graduates than their low-income peers. College Possible has a budget of $22 million, more than 130 full-time employees and more than 270 AmeriCorps and VISTA service members. During the 2018-19 school year, we will reach an estimated 25,000 students in all 50 states, at more than 90 partner high schools and at more than 350 colleges.

Basic Description

The Human Resources Manager works closely with the Director of Human Resources in supporting and developing College Possible's Leadership Team and AmeriCorps/VISTA members in the following areas: Talent acquisition, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation and employment law compliance. With greater accountability in the areas of Human Resources service efficiency, staff training and development and employee relations and engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a business partner and coach to managers and employees across the organization utilizing Human Resources expertise and strong leadership skills
  • Conduct full cycle recruitment for employee openings up to the Director level
  • Conduct workplace investigations as needed
  • Partner with managers to ensure a positive onboarding experience for all new employees
  • Supervise, coach and develop the Human Resources Representative responsible for payroll and benefits administration; serve as a back-up to the HR Representative in processing payroll and benefits
  • Lead the annual open enrollment process for the organization
  • Manage leave of absence and work accommodation requests for the organization
  • Partner with the Manager of Training and Engagement to identify training and development needs for the organization and implement needed training
  • Manage payroll and benefits compliance related work
  • Manage worker's compensation claims and first reports of injury
  • Other duties as assigned or required

Professional Requirements (Skills & Qualifications)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required;
  • A minimum of five years of broad based HR work experience required; Experience with recruitment, payroll, benefits and employee relations most highly desired;
  • Experience utilizing ADP Workforce Now highly desired;
  • PHR or SPHR helpful;
  • Successful record of influencing and partnering with and responding to questions from employees and managers;
  • Should have a passion for and commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment;
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Office Suite programs as well as experience in spreadsheet and database management;
  • Team oriented with ability to effectively handle and prioritize multiple tasks with frequent interruptions;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Requires tolerance for ambiguity, good judgement and a strong sense of quality in work;
  • Must possess high integrity, confidentiality and be able to handle sensitive and highly confidential information responsibly.
